Emergency Safety resource center

Freshwater Grange 499 is embarking on an ambitious 3 phase project! We are renovating and upgrading our hall to be an Emergency Safety Resource Center for the community by providing reliable heating, electricity, and shelter for emergency situations. Our communities are increasingly impacted by fire, flooding, power outages, and other weather related emergencies and Freshwater Grange plans to be prepared!

Our goal is to provide the community with shelter, power to charge medical devices, warmth, a kitchen, operating refrigerators to keep food and medicine cold, and as a clean air station.  During an emergency the Grange will act as a hub for these services as outlined in the Community Emergency Response Trainings (CERT) and by the Humboldt County Office of Emergency Services, and we will be able to increase the CERT training and disaster preparedness classes for the community.

Our “Rays on the Roof” donation drive kicks off fundraising for phase 1 of our community safety project. We have an ambitious goal of $38,000 to fund the installation of solar panels, heat pumps, and a propane generator.  The Grange has raised $24,000 towards our goal.  A community member donated $10,000 towards the HVAC heat pump system to improve the heating system and air quality of the Grange and another member’s estate has donated $5,000 towards the solar panels, which will help with the heating and electricity needs. Lindstrom Construction has been generously offering us free and/or discounted building materials and contractor time for Grange building improvements.
